Riksgränsen – Låktatjåkko Mountain Station

This popular mountain route starts at Riksgränsen Station and climbs toward the summit of Låktatjåkko (1,228 m.a.s.l.), where the mountain lodge is located – around 12 km one way. The trail takes you through birch forests, open mountain terrain, and massive stone valleys. It’s a technically varied path that ends best with a signature Låkta waffle and a wonderfully refreshing, or warming, drink depending on the weather. For those who want the full experience, we recommend an overnight stay and a two-course dinner served with stories from the lodge’s long history. This trail is best suited for experienced runners with solid mountain know-how.

Riksgränsfjället – A challenge with panoramic rewards

The hike from the village of Riksgränsen to the summit of Riksgränsfjället is about 2.5 km one-way, climbing roughly 389 vertical meters. The ascent is steep and demanding, requiring a good level of fitness — but you’ll find several mountain streams along the way for a refreshing break.

You can either follow the summer trail that winds around the mountain via Bjørnfjell, or take the more direct and notorious route straight up via Branten — the infamous slope where the most ambitious trail runners tackle the climb during the BAMM competition.

Whichever path you choose, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of the surrounding mountains. In summer, the midnight sun casts long shadows and bathes the peaks in a warm, golden light — an unforgettable experience.

Off-trail running

Off-trail running in Riksgränsen is an intense, nature-immersed experience that takes you beyond marked trails and into the wild mountain world. Here, where Sweden meets Norway, you’ll find a raw and dramatic landscape shaped by ice, wind, and time. This style of running fuses physical challenge with the grandeur of Riksgränsen’s natural beauty – think snow-patched peaks, waterfalls, alpine forests, and deep valleys. Off-trail running requires strong navigation skills and adaptability to constantly changing terrain.
