Whether you prefer an energizing morning swim or a peaceful evening soak, the a mountain dip experience is the perfect way to reset both body and mind. Here you’ll find some of the finest bathing spots in the area – from easily accessible roadside stops to more remote coves that require a short hike.

Things to keep in mind: Mountain water is cold, even in the middle of summer, but it’s doable if you listen to your body and breathe calmly. Start by dipping your feet and ease your way in. Never swim alone if you’re unsure. Leave no trace. Bring your trash, avoid disturbing wildlife, and keep your swim quiet and respectful.

Vassijaure
Right by the E10 highway west of Riksgränsen lies Lake Vassijaure. It’s wild, open, and grand – yet easy to reach. Mountain peaks rise around the lake and its rocky shore, and the water almost feels arctic fresh. Getting to Vassijaure is perfect for those who want a quick stop or an evening swim in the midnight sun, as the lake lies so close to Riksgränsen.


Geregas
Geregas is a tranquil cove on the northern shore of Vassijaure. You reach it by following a clear trail from the Riksgränsen campground. The hike is about 4 km one way, easy to walk, and offers beautiful views of the lake and surrounding mountains. About three-quarters of the way, there’s a wind shelter – perfect for a break or overnight stay. The bathing spot itself is secluded, with clear, cold water and a peaceful atmosphere. This spot is perfect for a half-day excursion with snacks and a refreshing mountain swim.
Kattejaure
Kattejaure is more remote and is a small, sheltered mountain lake where the water sometimes is slightly warmer than in the larger mountain lakes. It’s the perfect place for those seeking peace and a wants to escape everyday life. The setting is beautifully framed by mountains, with still, dark water that gives a sense of seclusion. This isn’t as easily accessible as other mountain lakes, which makes it a more private experience. It’s an idyllic place for those who want to enjoy the stillness of the mountains and swim in the chilly, pristine lake.
