SNOW REPORT MARCH 5

Good morning!
Today we’re greeted with warmer temperatures but strong winds and humid air, which means it’s smart to bring an extra layer in your backpack again today. It rained overnight, and the snow in the off-piste areas has been affected by this. Snow or rain may continue during the day, so waterproof clothing is a good idea.

We will start by opening the lower chairlift. From there, there is a traverse to the backside marked with orange/yellow poles. Due to icing overnight, the Upper chairlift and Vinkelliften will not open at 9:00, but we are working to get it running.

Over the past few nights, our snowcat drivers have begun packing Lingonstigen, Ripan, Kanan, and the last section of BH-löparn. These runs are therefore not groomed but only roughly packed in order to capture more snow. Please pay attention to yellow warning poles to avoid excavation edges.

Uffes and Branten will remain open, but the previously reported avalanche risk still exists. Cracks and releasing snow are discovered daily in our steeper slopes—therefore always carry a shovel, probe, transceiver, and ski with a partner if you plan to go off-piste.

Despite some refilling of snow, all previous hazards such as excavation edges and similar features remain—they are now just harder to spot. This winter has so far been characterized by a lack of precipitation and cold temperatures. The snowcat operators have worked hard to gather the snow that is available in order to build pistes and lift tracks.

Note! A thin and unstable snowpack means that the off-piste conditions are not what they normally are. There are more rocks exposed than in many years, and previously smooth sections may now be steep with terrain traps at the bottom. For skiing outside the ski area, we refer you to Lavinprognoser.se. The ski touring route has not yet been marked this year, as there is currently no safe route to set—ski touring within the ski area is prohibited.

The Nordals lift will not operate for now; we are working to get it running. Because of this, the Vinkel lift will run all day until 16:00. From the Vinkel top station, a traverse marked with pale orange poles leads you back to the Blåbär piste. The Katterjokk lift is closed, but snowmobile transport will operate during the lift’s opening hours.
