From tributes and natural formations to berries and fruits
Some of the names of our slopes will certainly mean nothing to the average person – while for others, there are entire stories behind them, both personal and historical.
Who exactly was that Uffe guy who has a wall, and do you have to wear a bra if you're riding the BH-löpan?
Here we've gathered the events, stories, and myths behind the rides!
Rimfors – Branten – Uffes vägg – Skimastern
20. Rimfors – Named after Olle Rimfors, who, together with Sigge Bergman, founded Sweden’s first ski school in 1935, and they also ran a ski school here in ”Gränsen” without a lift for 17 years! The first lift, the so-called bucket lift, was completed in 1952.
22. Branten – It got its name precisely because it’s so steep.
23. Uffes vägg – Named after Ulf Edborg, Lapplandia’s legendary ski instructor during the 1960s.
24. Skrattvallen – The large snowdrift and gully that formed beneath the lower chairlift near the midway station were frequently used by the ski school, leading to many comical falls and lots of laughter.
1. Skimastern – Named in the 1950s after a ski brand that was very popular at the time. The Skimastern ski was manufactured in Östersund and was made of hickory.

Klumpen – Tullhussvängen – Hamres – Björnfjellsbranten
25. Klumpen – The Big Bun (rock formation) and the hanging drift to the right of the lower chairlift and Pelikanhyllan. Fun runs in every direction!
26. Tullhussvängen – The name comes from the fact that you can see the old Norwegian customs station from there.
27. Hamres – When the upper chairlift was built in 1968, people began exploring runs further to the west. The run is named after Lasse Hamre, a Norwegian Olympic skier and ski instructor in Gränsen during the 1960s and 70s, known for taking guests down past the first gallery east of Björnfjell.
28. Björnfjellsbranten – Named this way because there is a steep slope adjacent to Björnfjellet on the Norwegian side.

BH-löpan – Snobben – Keps
5. BH-löpan – Named after Bengt Herman Nilsson, who was the king’s aide-de-camp and skied here a lot in Riksgränsen (it may also have something to do with the fact that people used to sunbathe here topless before the upper chairlift was built).
18. Snobben – Named after the run where skiers pass under the lift and ”show off”; the Riksgränsen Banked Slalom is also held here every year.
19. Keps – This massive snowdrift, which forms every year, is a tribute to ski instructor Karl Erik Persson, who worked tirelessly here in Riksgränsen during the 1960s and 1970s. On older lift maps, the snowdrift is called KEP’s Ski-Trade, which was the name of Persson’s ski agency.

Blåbärsbacken – Lingonstigen – Vargtassen – Apelsinklyftan
7. Blåbärsbacken – It’s called that because there are plenty of blueberries right here in the summer.
8. Lingonstigen – This was the name given when the lifts at the back were built, presumably by analogy with Blåbärsbacken. But lingonberries don’t grow here (since that requires pine forests, which are in short supply in ”Gränsen”).
9. Vargtassen – Refers to the cocktail made with lingonberry juice and vodka, which became the ”go-to drink” at Lapplandia in the 1970s and is associated with Klasse Möllberg and Magnus Granhed, ski instructors and entertainers at Lappis throughout the 1970s.
15. Apelsinklyftan – This used to be a popular spot for sunbathing, and hiking guides from the 1930s describe picnics with oranges people brought along right here.
