Pelican Flight - An Iconic Ski Jumping Competition

The Pelikan Flight is a Big Air competition (jump competition) that takes place at the so-called Pelikanhyllan (Vid hotel complex/Lobby Bar). The Pelican Flight is more of a ”session” and a celebration than a strict elite competition. The name comes from the classic ”Pelican Jump” – a large snow jump built just below the outdoor seating area, allowing the audience to sit with a drink in hand and watch the riders fly by up close.

How does the competition work?

• Format: It's usually a jam session. That means the riders have a certain amount of time to do as many jumps as they want.

• Assessment The judges often look at a combination of difficulty, style (steeze), and landing. There are usually classes for both skiing and snowboarding, and sometimes a special junior class.

• Mood The music is loud, there's a speaker, and often the crowd is really into it. It's not uncommon to see costumes or more spectacular ”old school” tricks.

Registration usually takes place at the reception of Hotel Riksgränsen or directly at the jump on the day of the competition. More information will follow!
