The Pelican Flight is more of a \u201dsession\u201d and a celebration than a strict elite competition. The name comes from the classic \u201dPelican Jump\u201d \u2013 a large snow jump built just below the outdoor seating area, allowing the audience to sit with a drink in hand and watch the riders fly by up close.<\/p>\n<h4>How does the competition work?<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><b>Format:<\/b> It's usually a jam session. That means the riders have a certain amount of time to do as many jumps as they want.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><b>Assessment<\/b> The judges often look at a combination of difficulty, style (steeze), and landing. There are usually classes for both skiing and snowboarding, and sometimes a special junior class.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><b>Mood<\/b> The music is loud, there's a speaker, and often the crowd is really into it. It's not uncommon to see costumes or more spectacular \u201dold school\u201d tricks.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<h4>Notification<\/h4>\n<p>Registration usually takes place at the reception of Hotel Riksgr\u00e4nsen or directly at the jump on the day of the competition.
